The Wales Bill

Background

1. The Wales Bill was published on 7 June 2016.

2. Prior to the introduction of the Wales Bill, the Draft Wales Bill was considered by the Fourth Assembly Finance Committee.

Objective

3. There are a number of provisions in the Wales Bill which may be of interest to Members of the Finance Committee.

4. A briefing paper prepared for the Committee by the Research and Legal Services is attached in the papers pack.

5. A letter from y Llywydd to all Welsh MPs, with suggested amendments to the Wales Bill is attached as Paper 1.

Timetable

6. Time for consideration of the Bill is limited, Committee stage is 5 and 11 July 2016, with report stage likely to be early in September.  This timetable will curtail Members ability to influence the passage of the Bill.

7. Members are invited to consider the papers and advise the clerking team of any action they may wish to take.
